Sustainability Overview

Usha Martin, as a responsible corporate, is deeply committed to embedding sustainability across all aspects of its business. Guided by the vision “One Usha Martin: Driven by Purpose, United in Action”, we integrate environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and strong governance into our operations. Our strategy is built on aligning business growth with sustainable practices that address the expectations of stakeholders and global imperatives. This commitment is reflected in our efforts to reduce our environmental footprint, strengthen community engagement, and maintain the highest standards of ethical governance.

Our approach to sustainability focuses on five key pillars: Ethical Business, Sustainable Partnership, Product Stewardship, Care for People and Care for Environment. We are advancing decarbonization by adopting renewable energy solutions, conducting lifecycle assessments, and initiating Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for select products to enhance transparency. Through ongoing investments in energy and water efficiency and comprehensive audits, we aim to develop a low-carbon, resource-efficient business model aligned with India’s net-zero vision and global competitiveness.

We believe that people and governance are key to our journey. On the social side, we are promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. We're also focused on workplace safety through our "Zero Harm" goal and supporting communities with programs in education, health, livelihood, and skill development initiatives. Strong governance supports our sustainability efforts. Our Board and Sustainability Council provide solid oversight, we follow global standards, and we engage openly with stakeholders. By working closely with governments, companies, NGOs, suppliers, and local communities, we are building a stronger, more sustainable Usha Martin for the future.

Usha Martin Limited is now a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. By becoming a part of this global initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to the Ten Principles of the UNGC across the areas of human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption.

Sustainability Pillars

Our Commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Usha Martin actively contributes to the UN SDGs by embedding sustainability into every aspect of its operations. Our initiatives directly support the following goals:

Sustainable Supply Chain

At Usha Martin, we recognize the broader impact of our operations and are committed to building a responsible, ethical, and resilient supply chain. During the year, we conducted a focused supply chain assessment to evaluate critical partners against stringent sustainability and ethical standards. In line with this, we also refined our supplier criticality parameters and delivered targeted capacity-building programs to ensure our partners are fully aligned with our values of transparency, responsibility, and long-term growth.

Our Approach

We collaborate closely with our suppliers and vendor partners to ensure sustainability runs throughout our value chain. We expect every partner to integrate ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) principles into their operations. To formalize this commitment, we have:

  • Established a Supplier Code of Conduct and a Sustainable Procurement Policy that emphasize fair business practices, human rights, environmental protection, health & safety, and anti-corruption.
  • Defined criteria for identifying Critical Suppliers, based on factors such as ESG risk exposure, spend, geographic risk, material or commodity risk, performance, and business relevance.
  • Implemented communication, training and awareness programs to ensure our critical supplier partners understand and can meet our supplier sustainability expectations.

Supplier Assessment & Performance

  • All our active critical suppliers sign our Supplier Code of Conduct and submit annual declarations confirming their commitment under our policy.
  • Suppliers undergo assessment via a detailed questionnaire covering ESG themes: Environment (energy, emissions, waste, water), Social (labor, human rights, equal opportunity), Health and Safety, Governance, and ESG Strategy & Vision. We verify inputs through evidence, audits or certifications.
  • We classify suppliers into ESG Maturity Levels using performance scores:

  • Suppliers who meet “Improving & above” qualify under our Sustainable Procurement Framework, meaning their ESG maturity is considered in procurement decisions.
  • For those below desired performance levels, we co-create Corrective Action Plans (CAPs) and run supplier capability-building programs to help them improve ESG compliance and close gaps.

The findings from these assessments inform the development of Corrective Action Plans (CAPs), crafted in close collaboration with our suppliers. Furthermore, our Supplier ESG Workshops are designed to facilitate joint improvement projects, actively supporting our partners in elevating their sustainability performance
